Block PS4 System Updates (2026 Guide)

Sony is still releasing new PS4 firmware updates in 2026, and the latest public system software is 13.50, released in March 2026. Firmware 13.02 arrived in October 2025, followed by 13.04 in January 2026.

For normal users, updates are fine.

But for PS4 jailbreak users, updating accidentally can permanently remove jailbreak access.

There is:

❌ No software downgrade
❌ No “undo” after update
❌ No way back once updated

If your PS4 is on a jailbreakable firmware, blocking updates is mandatory. This guide covers all working methods for 2026.

Why You Must Block PS4 Updates

A jailbreak only works on specific firmware versions.

If your console updates automatically:

❌ Jailbreak is lost
❌ GoldHEN stops working
❌ Exploits may never come to your new firmware
❌ No downgrade possible

PS4 can silently download updates when:

  • Connected to Wi-Fi
  • Date/time sync is enabled
  • Opening games
  • Checking licenses
  • Opening browser apps
  • Background services wake from Rest Mode

Sometimes the update installs automatically after reboot. That’s why update blocking is critical.

PS4 Jailbreak Status (2026)

Current exploit status:

FirmwareStatus
1.76Jailbreakable
4.05 / 4.55 / 5.05Jailbreakable
6.72Jailbreakable
7.02 / 7.55Jailbreakable
9.00Jailbreakable
11.00PPPwn
11.02–12.52BD-JB / Lua
13.00Vue exploit + GoldHEN
13.02+Not fully public yet

Community exploit charts currently list 13.00 as latest fully exploited firmware, while 13.02+ remains under research.

That makes update blocking even more important.

Best Ways to Block PS4 Updates (2026)

Use multiple methods together for maximum safety.

Method 1: Disable Automatic Downloads (Must Do)

This is the first thing every PS4 owner should do.

Steps:

  1. Go to: Settings → System → Automatic Downloads
  2. Uncheck everything:

☐ System Software Update Files
☐ Application Update Files
☐ Featured Content

Result:

✅ Stops most background downloads

But…

⚠️ Not 100% safe alone.

Method 2: Disable Updates Payload (4.05–11.00)

Best for WebKit / PPPwn users.

Steps:

  1. Run your jailbreak
  2. Open payload sender
  3. Send: Disable Updates Payload
  4. Reboot

After that:

PS4 will show: SU-30696-4

That means updates are blocked.

Result:

✅ Update cannot install
✅ Works offline
✅ Very reliable

⚠️ Re-apply after cold boot if required.

Method 3: Change NP Environment (11.xx–13.00)

Recommended for:

  • BD-JB
  • Lua-Lapse
  • Vue users

Steps:

  1. Go to: Settings → Debug Settings → PlayStation Network
  2. Open: NP Environment
  3. Change: NP → sp-int

Reboot PS4.

Result:

✅ Stops Sony update checks
✅ Stops game patch checks
✅ Safer Internet usage

⚠️ Never log into PSN.

Method 4: Block Sony Update Servers (DNS / Router)

Works on every firmware. Best universal method.

Block these domains:

fuk01.ps4.update.playstation.net
duk01.ps4.update.playstation.net
fus01.ps4.update.playstation.net
feu01.ps4.update.playstation.net
al02.cdn.update.playstation.net
a01.cdn.update.playstation.org.edgesuite.net
playstation.sony.akadns.net
a192.d.akamai.net
gs-sec.ww.np.dl.playstation.net

Apply on:

  • Router
  • Pi-hole
  • AdGuard
  • Firewall
  • Custom DNS

Result:

✅ PS4 cannot contact update servers
✅ Works even before jailbreak
✅ Protects all users

Method 5: Delete Downloaded Update File

Sometimes update is already downloaded.

Delete it immediately.

Steps:

  1. Go to: Notifications → Downloads
  2. Delete: System Software Update
  3. Power off PS4.
  4. Boot again.

Method 6: Remove Update Cache (Advanced)

Jailbreak users can manually remove:

/UPDATE

and:

/PS4UPDATE.PUP

using file managers/homebrew.

Useful tools include software like PS4-Xplorer.

Result: ✅ Removes already cached updates

Method 7: Safe Internet Usage (11.00–13.00)

Internet is safe only if updates are blocked.

Before connecting:

✔ Disable Auto Downloads
✔ Change NP Environment
✔ Apply Disable Updates Payload
✔ Block DNS servers
✔ Delete downloaded update files

Then Internet becomes much safer.
